Home Automation | Smart Motion Detector |A New Twist On Proven Technology

A motion detector that adapts to any architecture instead of disrupting it – that was the central challenge behind the Busch-Wächter® PRO. Together with ABB Busch-Jaeger, we designed a presence and motion detector that combines intelligent technology with a clear, timeless design language. ENTWURFREICH developed the concept and form together with Busch-Jaeger's design team – from the first idea to the final shape; the technical engineering was handled by Busch-Jaeger's engineers. The result is a motion detector design that is not only award-winning, but also offers intuitive installation, app control and premium quality – proudly made in Germany. As an industrial design agency based in Düsseldorf, we turned safety technology into an architectural object.

Honoured with six international design awards – including the iF Design Award 2025 and the German Design Award 2025 – the Busch-Wächter® PRO is a testament to a development process driven by passion, precision and an uncompromising focus on quality. It demonstrates that modern safety and sensor solutions can do far more than simply switch lights on and off: they can seamlessly combine intelligent functionality, user-centric design and a premium product experience. The Busch-Wächter PRO continues our long-standing design partnership with Busch-Jaeger – as does the award-winning Busch-art linear switch range.

Architecture Meets Design

The Busch-Wächter® PRO is designed to fit into any context – a modern motion detector that complements a space rather than dominating it. The optional square design frame and five premium finishes – from anthracite and brown to stainless steel, aluminium silver and studio white – open up almost endless ways to adapt the product to any architecture and any interior style. With its interchangeable design frame, the motion detector can even be transformed from a round to a square appearance in seconds – and changed after installation. This turns a technical component into a design element: a round motion detector for clean, minimalist rooms, a square variant for bold architecture. Via Busch-free@home® and KNX, it integrates seamlessly into the smart home – configured conveniently via app.

Flexible Mounting

The Busch-Wächter® PRO provides maximum installation freedom – whether on a wall, a ceiling, in a corner or on an angled surface. Thanks to its well-engineered mechanical design, it adapts precisely to the structural situation without compromising function or appearance. Its rigid housing keeps the sensor alignment exactly in place, ensuring clearly defined detection areas and consistently reliable performance throughout the product's lifetime. This makes the motion detector equally suited to new builds and renovations, to private entrances and demanding commercial applications. An integrated LED visualises the detection area during commissioning – so alignment succeeds right away, quickly and transparently.

Precise Adjustment

With three individually adjustable joints, the sensor head of the Busch-Wächter® PRO can be aligned exactly to its surroundings – horizontally and vertically. This directs the detection area precisely to where motion should be picked up, while preventing unwanted triggering from adjacent paths or neighbouring properties. This fine-tuning is the difference between a detector that merely reacts and one that reliably does the right thing. Especially in complex structural situations – at corners, above staircases or on angled facades – the articulated mechanism delivers maximum installation flexibility and pinpoint detection that stays stable for years.

Different Detection Ranges: 90°, 220° and 280°

To meet a wide variety of architectural and functional requirements, the Busch-Wächter® PRO is available in three detection variants. The 90° variant detects in a focused frontal field – ideal for narrow paths, entrances and terraced houses. The 220° variant covers large areas with up to 16 m frontal and 32 m lateral reach and, thanks to rear-field detection, also registers movement directly beneath the device. The 280° variant finally detects almost all around and is the right choice for corner situations and free-standing mounting locations. So the right detection angle can be chosen for every installation – precise, energy-efficient and without blind spots. All variants share the same award-winning motion detector design.

A motion detector is usually seen as a purely technical component. Our aim was to design it so that it defers to the architecture and elevates it at the same time – round or square, in any environment.

Design Development

The design of the Busch-Wächter® PRO was driven by intensive concept and ideation work. The starting point was a clear question: how do you turn a purely functional safety product into an object you actively want on your wall? Across numerous sketches, models and design studies, we explored proportions, radii and surface transitions until the form reached its characteristic calm. In close coordination with Busch-Jaeger's engineers, we translated the concepts step by step into the technical construction – always with the ambition to unite sensor technology, mechanics and design without compromise. Out of a wide range of concepts, a product emerged that balances function, ergonomics and aesthetics.

From First Sketch to Final Product

Through a dynamic process of ideation and sketching, we explored multiple style directions for the Busch-Wächter® PRO. Characteristic features are its calm, reduced formal language and the subtle interplay of geometry and function. This meticulous development phase ensured that every element contributes to a harmonious overall appearance – a signature look defined by clear lines and confident restraint.
