Design projects from Düsseldorf

Four projects built at the Bilk studio — from the intelligent pressing machine and the award-winning switch range to the e-bike charging station for Stadtwerke Düsseldorf and the Mixed Reality Controller.

Why Düsseldorf?

Düsseldorf sits at the intersection of design, industry, and capital — the natural home for an agency that itself sits at the intersection of engineering, marketing, and management.

North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) is by far Germany's most industrially dense state. Within a 50 km radius of our studio sit major enterprises such as Henkel (Düsseldorf), Vodafone Germany (Düsseldorf), 3M (Neuss), ABB (Ratingen), Vaillant (Remscheid), and Schüco (Bielefeld), alongside hundreds of mid-sized industrial and medical-device manufacturers. Distances are short: workshops happen physically at the studio or on-site, prototypes can be transported within an hour, and the toolmakers and injection-moulders of the Bergisches Land are just a drive away.

Düsseldorf's design scene has its own DNA: pragmatic, engineering-fluent, rooted in the Bauhaus tradition via the renowned design programme at Bergische Universität Wuppertal — where both founder Simon Gorski and creative director Matthias Menzel studied Industrial Design. We work in that tradition: with the discipline industrial projects demand, and the conceptual depth that separates award-winning products from standard products.

Beyond the region, we exchange ideas with design teams in Berlin, Munich, Stockholm, Milan, and Tokyo — ENTWURFREICH is rooted locally in Düsseldorf, but not bound to it. 14 years of studio history, 350 projects, 125 clients — a meaningful share of those headquartered within NRW.

Studio Düsseldorf-Bilk

The studio is in Bilk, just south of the old town, in a listed industrial building on Fleher Straße. Workshop, model-making, meeting rooms, and an open studio floor on a single level — chosen so the team can move between desk and prototype without losing the thread.

Frequently asked questions about the Düsseldorf studio

Where exactly is ENTWURFREICH located?

Our studio is at Fleher Straße 32 in the Bilk district, about a 10-minute walk from S-Bahn Düsseldorf-Bilk and 15 minutes by tram from the old town.

Does ENTWURFREICH work outside Düsseldorf?

Yes — most of our clients are in NRW, but we regularly run projects for companies in southern and northern Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Scandinavia, and China. Workshops happen at the Düsseldorf studio, on-site at the client, or remotely depending on the phase.

Can I drop by without an appointment?

Please give us a brief heads-up by email or phone — the team is often in workshops or with clients. If a slot opens up, you are welcome. Coffee is always on.

Which industries do you cover from Düsseldorf?

Our focus areas are building technology (switches, sensors, HVAC), medical devices under IEC 62366 and MDR 2017/745, industrial tools, consumer goods, and HMI design for machinery and equipment. Building technology and medical devices benefit particularly from Düsseldorf's location — between switch-industry hubs (Busch-Jaeger / ABB), medical clusters (Cologne, Aachen), and the toolmakers of the Bergisches Land.

How does first contact work?

The simplest path is a short email to info@entwurfreich.com with two or three lines about your project — context, timing, whether a brief exists. We typically reply within one business day and propose a 30-minute call.

How long does a typical design project take?

Industrial-design projects from concept through series release usually run 3 to 12 months, depending on complexity and certification scope (e.g. MDR 2017/745 and IEC 62366 for medical devices). UX/UI audits or concept sprints can be delivered in 4 to 8 weeks. An initial briefing call typically answers most timing questions within 30 minutes.
